Teaming with Radio Amateurs — “Ham Help”

Amateur radio operators (also known as "hams") are good candidates to provide assistance to Radio Jove school teams. Most hams have experience in assembling and testing electronic hardware and in building and erecting antennas in the high frequency portion of the radio spectrum. Locating a nearby ham to assist your team may be as easy as contacting a local ham club. There are thousands of such clubs in the United States alone.

The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) maintains a Web-based search tool for finding nearby ARRL-affiliated clubs. Its address is http://www.arrl.org/find-a-club.

Another source of assistance is the community of amateur radio astronomy enthusiasts. The Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers (SARA) is a organization of such hobbyists. Information on contacting SARA can be found at http://www.radio-astronomy.org/.
